Introduction

The Department of Economics provides both undergraduate and graduate programs of instruction. Our academic programs train students to understand the solid theoretical core of the economic disciplines as well as to apply fundamental concepts to analyze real-world economic issues. For students to have better career opportunities in Taiwan’s rapidly internationalized economic environment, the Department designs courses to improve students’ proficiency in foreign languages and broaden their views on international affairs, in particular, the global economy. In addition, the Department is involved in exchange student programs with several well-known foreign universities, and so gives students the chance to interact with the leading international staff.

The Department runs a regular workshop and seminar schedule, which attracts distinguished scholars from other research institutions. We also invite famous CEOs to share their precious experiences with students. Computer facilities include a lot of personal computers which are all connected directly to mainframe and internet. Students have access to the main University Library which possesses an extensive collection of important journals related to economics. Books for required reading, reference works in economics, and electronic information products are also abundant.

The Department encourages close faculty-student interaction through several channels, among them, the regular lunch box meetings between a small group of students and their supervisor teacher is the most important. Moreover, a close working relationship among faculty is promoted by collaborative research and publication. Currently the Department has 12 full-time faculties with research fields of international trade, industrial organization, labor economics, growth theory, economic development, and econometrics.
